Cambodia Establishes High-Level Working Group to Boost Film Tourism and Night Temple Experiences

The Royal Government of Cambodia has officially established an inter-ministerial working group dedicated to coordinating and supporting the development of film tourism and enhancing night temple visits. This significant decision aims to bolster Cambodia’s appeal to international tourists, stimulate investment within the sector, and elevate the nation’s reputation on the global stage.

According to a Royal Government decision dated June 16, 2026, the inter-ministerial working group comprises 35 members. The group is chaired by H.E. Hout Hak, Minister of Tourism. Its vice-presidents include prominent leaders from the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, the Office of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Tourism. Additional members are drawn from various other relevant ministries, institutions, and authorities, ensuring a comprehensive and collaborative approach.

The primary mandate of this working group is to formulate strategic plans and actionable roadmaps aimed at bolstering both the film tourism sector and the experience of visiting temples at night. This includes diligently monitoring, evaluating, and promoting the effective implementation of these plans. Furthermore, the group will take the lead in coordinating efforts with various ministries, governmental institutions, sub-national administrations, the private sector, and both national and international partners. The ultimate goal of this collaboration is to attract the production of films, tourism-themed songs, and commercial promotional videos within Cambodia.

A key responsibility of the working group involves conducting studies to identify potential regions ideal for film shooting and establishing robust incentive mechanisms designed to attract international filmmakers to Cambodia. Beyond this, the group will actively promote the development of a comprehensive film tourism industry, fostering the creation of innovative tourism products. Its duties also extend to organizing a diverse array of cultural, artistic, traditional, religious events, and engaging night activities. These initiatives are designed to significantly enhance tourist appeal and encourage longer stays, enriching visitors’ overall experience.

The Royal Government’s decision also tasks the working group with streamlining procedures and proactively addressing any challenges that may arise in relation to film production, tourism songs, commercial advertisements, and the organization of night temple visits. Crucially, the group is mandated to regularly report its work progress and outcomes to the Prime Minister, channelled through the Office of the Council of Ministers, ensuring transparency and accountability.

To effectively support its operational mandate, the inter-ministerial working group will be assisted by a technical working group from the Ministry of Tourism, which will serve as its secretariat for coordination. Further participation from other relevant ministries and institutions may be sought as deemed necessary. The working group is authorized to utilize the seal of the Ministry of Tourism for its official functions, and all associated expenditures will be borne by the respective ministries and institutions involved in its activities.
