Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn is set to lead a delegation to the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and its associated gatherings. These significant diplomatic events are scheduled to take place from July 18 to 23 in Manila, the Philippines. The Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed this participation in a press release issued on July 17, stating that Minister Sokhonn’s attendance comes at the invitation of Philippine Foreign Minister Theresa Pilazaro.
Operating under the overarching theme ‘Towards a Common Future,’ the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and its related sessions are poised to serve as a crucial platform. Here, delegates will engage in discussions and meticulously monitor the progress and outcomes stemming from the 48th ASEAN Summit. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs further elaborated that these meetings will also facilitate valuable opportunities for ASEAN member states and their external partners to exchange perspectives on the latest regional and international developments, particularly against the backdrop of an increasingly complex and rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape.
Following the conclusion of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and its associated gatherings, Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, in his capacity as Minister of Foreign Affairs, is slated to participate in a series of activities commemorating the milestone 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC). This significant celebration marks five decades since the Treaty was established, serving as a foundational pillar for regional peace, stability, and rule-based cooperation. The event will also serve to reaffirm the enduring principles that underpin ASEAN’s long-term vision for the region and its role in a constantly evolving global environment.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that Minister Sokhonn’s agenda includes participation in additional important meetings. These comprise gatherings held under the framework of the Mekong cooperation initiatives, as well as the 5th Conference on Cooperation among East Asian countries, specifically addressing the development of Palestine. During his time in Manila, the Cambodian Foreign Minister is also expected to conduct several bilateral meetings with his counterparts from various nations. These discussions aim to foster and deepen bilateral relations and cooperation across a range of mutual interests.
