Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, who serves as the First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), has formally invited Pfizer, a globally recognized pharmaceutical leader based in the United States, to consider significant investment opportunities within Cambodia’s burgeoning health sector.
This proposal was extended during a Cambodian delegation’s investment promotion mission to the United States on November 4. During this mission, Mr. Sun Chanthol engaged in discussions with Pfizer’s management, highlighting Cambodia’s commitment to advancing its healthcare infrastructure. The meeting’s primary focus was on establishing stronger ties between Cambodia’s pharmaceutical and health sectors and Pfizer’s world-class technology and standards.
Pfizer executives expressed considerable interest in the Cambodian Royal Government’s dedicated efforts to foster growth in the health sector. The company’s management also indicated a willingness to collaborate closely with the CDC and relevant ministries to thoroughly assess the potential for expanding their business operations within Cambodia. This potential expansion could specifically include the supply of essential medicines under special conditions and substantial support for public health programs across the nation.
In response, Mr. Sun Chanthol emphasized Cambodia’s readiness to facilitate this partnership, aiming to ensure that Pfizer’s products can reach the Cambodian market both rapidly and comprehensively. He underscored that a recently signed trade agreement between Cambodia and the United States is expected to create an even more favorable environment for such collaborations between the two countries.
“We urge Pfizer to consider the profound possibility of investing in Cambodia, particularly in healthcare, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and biotechnology,” stated Mr. Sun Chanthol. He further noted that these areas are specifically encouraged and receive special incentives under Cambodia’s new investment law. Additionally, he called upon the company to contribute to human resource development and knowledge transfer in the medical field for the benefit of the Cambodian populace.
