A significant Chinese state-owned enterprise, China National Chemical Engineering Group Corporation (CNCEC), is actively exploring substantial investment opportunities within Cambodia’s burgeoning chemical engineering sector. The company’s focus includes critical areas such as wastewater treatment infrastructure and the vital fertilizer industry, aimed at bolstering the nation’s agricultural sector. This development was recently confirmed by the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC).
These discussions took place during a meeting on January 14 between Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol, who also serves as the First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and Mr. Zhou Hong, the esteemed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fourth Construction Co., Ltd. (FCC). FCC operates as a strategic subsidiary of the larger China National Chemical Engineering Group Corporation (CNCEC).
During the high-level meeting, Mr. Zhou Hong outlined CNCEC-FCC’s extensive background and formidable capabilities, highlighting its profound experience in the design and construction of high-level petrochemical infrastructure on a global scale. Chairman Zhou reiterated the company’s clear intention to establish a presence in Cambodia as a strategic base for expanding its chemical engineering services. This expansion would specifically target the development of advanced wastewater treatment infrastructure and contribute significantly to the fertilizer industry, crucial for modern agriculture. These initiatives are designed to integrate with and modernize Cambodia’s domestic industrial production chain, aligning it with international standards.
In response, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol expressed profound appreciation for CNCEC’s keen investment interest, particularly recognizing it as a priority area that is pivotal for supporting the foundational processing industries within Cambodia. The CDC Vice President emphasized the transformative potential, stating, “Chemical engineering will serve as a new driving force in adding significant value to the national economy. This aligns perfectly with Cambodia’s Industrial Development Policy and the ambitious Pentagon Strategy, which both prioritize the modernization of our industrial landscape.”
Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol further noted that the investment interest from a large state-owned enterprise like CNCEC underscores the robust confidence foreign investors have in Cambodia’s current investment climate. He also acknowledged the private sector’s crucial and active contribution to social welfare and national security within Cambodia.
