Phnom Penh has officially expressed its welcome and support for the recent peace agreement concerning Gaza. This endorsement was formally conveyed through a statement issued by Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on October 17, underscoring the nation’s commitment to global stability and diplomatic resolutions.
The comprehensive agreement, signed on October 13 in Egypt, brought together several key international figures, including United States President Donald Trump, the Egyptian President, the Qatar Leader, and the Turkish President. This significant diplomatic achievement aims to establish lasting peace and stability in the Gaza region, following an initial phase of a ceasefire that was previously implemented between Hamas and Israel.
In its official statement, Cambodia not only welcomed the broad strokes of the peace agreement but also strongly reaffirmed its consistent support for a two-state solution to the long-standing Palestinian issue. The Ministry emphasized Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to fostering continued dialogue among all parties involved, advocating for discussions to proceed strictly in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, which serve as foundational principles for resolving international disputes.
Furthermore, Cambodia conveyed its appreciation for the leadership demonstrated by United States President Donald Trump in facilitating and brokering this crucial peace agreement for Gaza, recognizing the efforts made towards de-escalation and peace-building in the region.
