The Cambodian government, through the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA), in collaboration with Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. (AIAI), is actively advancing the “Miracle Angkor” project. This ambitious development aims to transform the former Siem Reap International Airport site into a significant tourism, commercial, and cultural hub.
According to Mr. Sin Chansereyvutha, spokesperson for the SSCA, the “Miracle Angkor” project is designed to enhance the appeal of Siem Reap province for visitors. The initiative is expected to encourage tourists to extend their stays, moving beyond a transit point to become a destination where guests spend a longer duration, potentially adding an extra one to two nights to their itineraries.
In a crucial meeting on August 12, the progress of this strategic project was a key focus. Mr. Lu Wei, Chairman of the Board for Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. (AIAI), held discussions with Mr. Mao Havannall, Minister in charge of the SSCA. Their talks centered on the development and proposed utilization of the old Siem Reap airport site, evaluating its extensive potential and aligning with the project’s phased implementation.
The “Miracle Angkor” project encompasses a substantial area of 196.32 hectares. AIAI is currently undertaking comprehensive feasibility studies for this large-scale investment. Mr. Sin Chansereyvutha further elaborated on Cambodia’s vision for the site, stating that the primary goal is to convert the former airport into a vibrant center for commerce, culture, and night tourism. This comprehensive development is slated to include an international exhibition center, a modern digital museum, and innovative carbon-free green tourism performances, all meticulously designed to create a unique and immersive experience for visitors.
By integrating these diverse attractions, the “Miracle Angkor” project is poised to significantly contribute to the local economy and firmly establish Siem Reap as a premier international tourism destination, encouraging prolonged engagement from global travelers.
