Cambodia’s Kampong Thom province is set to receive a significant economic boost with the approval of two major investment projects totaling $72 million. These projects, officially greenlit by the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) in July, include the establishment of an aquaculture farm for fish and clams with an accompanying conch pearl and fish processing factory, alongside a gold mining business and processing plant.
According to a press release from the CDC issued on August 13, the aquaculture farm and processing factory project represents an investment of $41 million. This agricultural and agro-industrial venture will be located in Stoung district, Kampong Thom province, and is projected to create 2,939 new job opportunities for local residents. Separately, the gold mining business, which involves the construction and reprocessing facility, boasts an investment capital of $31 million. This industrial project, situated outside any Special Economic Zone, will span across Sandan district in Kampong Thom province and Sambor district in Kratie province, and is expected to generate 400 jobs.
Beyond these two substantial investments, Cambodia saw the approval of 30 other diverse investment projects in July 2026 (as per original source), collectively valued at approximately $453 million. These projects, strategically located both within and outside Special Economic Zones, are anticipated to create tens of thousands of employment opportunities for citizens across the country.
The CDC further elaborated on some of these additional approvals, including a major project for the development of a 500-megawatt / 1,000-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system (BESS). This significant infrastructure project, with an investment capital of $244 million, will be established in Krakor district, Pursat province.
Within the same geographical area of Pursat, the CDC also approved another project focused on developing a solar power generation station, which has an investment value of $62 million and is expected to create 26 jobs. Additionally, a project for establishing a non-ferrous metal processing plant, valued at $15 million, was approved for the Koh Kong Cheay Cheang Special Economic Zone, promising 200 new positions.
The CDC highlighted that Cambodia has consistently attracted high-quality investment projects over the past seven months, particularly noting growth in the infrastructure and tourism sectors in terms of capital volume. The industrial sector continues to be a primary driver for attracting investments. The provinces and capital city benefiting from these various investment projects include Phnom Penh, Kandal, Kampong Speu, Takeo, Svay Rieng, Kampong Thom, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, and Kampot.
