Phnom Penh, Cambodia – GAZ Group, a prominent Russian automotive manufacturing conglomerate, has formally expressed its strong interest in exploring significant investment opportunities within Cambodia’s burgeoning automotive sector. This declaration was made during a high-level meeting between Mr. Dolgov Leonid, Director of Export for GAZ Group, and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.
The meeting took place on June 18th in Kazan, Russian Federation, on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Russia Anniversary Summit, which commemorated 35 years of relations between ASEAN and Russia. According to a press release from the office of Prime Minister Hun Manet, the discussions centered on potential collaborations and investment ventures.
During their dialogue, Mr. Dolgov Leonid provided Prime Minister Hun Manet with a comprehensive overview of GAZ Group’s extensive operations. He highlighted the company’s long-standing history in the automotive industry, boasting approximately 90 years of experience and a vast network of 15 manufacturing facilities. GAZ Group is a major exporter, distributing its vehicles to 43 countries worldwide and supported by a robust network of 240 representatives. The company specializes in a diverse range of vehicle models, including commercial vehicles, various types of trucks, medium-sized buses, ambulances, and the production of essential spare parts.
Mr. Dolgov Leonid conveyed GAZ Group’s keen interest in Cambodia, noting, “GAZ Group, already operating within the ASEAN region, observes Cambodia’s rapidly growing and resilient economy. The company is therefore very interested and eager to identify opportunities for investment in Cambodia’s automotive sector.”
In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet warmly welcomed GAZ Group’s interest in seeking investment opportunities within the Kingdom. He reaffirmed the Royal Government of Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to providing the necessary policies and mechanisms to support the successful establishment and operation of foreign companies investing in Cambodia. The Prime Minister further encouraged GAZ Group to delve into the potential for investing in Cambodia’s production chains, particularly in the context of the “Plus 1 Strategy,” which aims to enhance regional supply chain resilience and diversification. He urged the Russian firm to continue detailed discussions with relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions to fully capitalize on the promising investment and growth prospects available in the country.
